The City

DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE:

A rap and hip hop opera written entirely in rhyme, performed as one continuous song. Combines rap, hip hop and spoken word with theatrical and poetic texts. Inspired by black music, film noir, and detective films. The plot focuses on the character of Joe, a cynical and bitter detective working in a corrupt, decaying city. One stormy night, a young woman named Sarah Bennett comes to Joe’s office and tells him about the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Joe decides to take the case, a decision that could cost him his life.

„The City” was written and created by Amit Ulman, Omer Havron, and Omer Mor - members of “The Victor Jackson Show”, an Israeli hip hop group that has put on dozens of performances around Israel, and boasts two EPs and a large, supportive group of fans. „The City” is a winner of Golden Hedgehog Festival 2014 in a categories Director of the year, Writer of the year, Best music, Best group work.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

The Incubator Theater began operating in 2005, in the center of Jerusalem, as a project whose main objective was to build an infrastructure for original theater in the city. During the past 10 years, the Theater has put on more than 1.300 shows from 30 original productions and plays, including a television series. It has also gained the recognition of public bodies such as the Jerusalem municipality and the Ministry of Culture. The Theater aims to be a significant agent of cultural change in Jerusalem and an active force in developing an urban climate of pluralism and openness. The Theater strives to be a meeting place that attracts actors, writers, and other theater artists, a focal point that stimulates cultural discourse on the complexities and unique aspects of Israeli society, while serving as a “greenhouse” for creating original and innovative theater, which is both entertaining and thought-provoking, for broad and diverse audiences.
